Will the iPhone 5 Mini iPad Take On The Samsung Galaxy Note
The Galaxy Note has become a relative success for Samsung in 2012. Is Apple looking to take on this smartphone/tablet crossover with a large-screenediPhone 5 or Mini iPad?
The Samsung Galaxy Note has been laughed off byAppledom for its built-in stylus pen and big, bulky screen — a device that doesn’t know if it is a smartphone or tablet. And yet, in spite of the widespread ambivalence of the Samsung Galaxy Note’s design and place in the mobile computing sphere, it has managed to lead Samsung’s recent sales successes. According to CNBC, Samsung “will report strong first-quarter profit of around USD 4.5 billion on Friday on soaring sales of its flagship Galaxy smartphones and the new Note, a mini-tablet and phone,” adding that “Sales of the Note, which has revived the throwback stylus function, have topped 5 million, increasing the competition against Apple Inc.”
Compared to the fact that the iPhone 4S sold 4 million units in its first weekend alone, 5 million Samsung Galaxy Note sales may not seems all too impressive when comparing it against Apple’s iPhone sales. But pound for pound, it cannot be denied that the Galaxy Note has turned out to be a design success; people are buying it, people are liking it, and — most importantly in Apple’s eyes — it’s making Samsung money.

Apple announces 7 9 inch iPad mini

Apple has unveiled the long rumored iPad mini at the Special Event. The new iPad mini features a stunning 7.9-inch Multi-Touch display and ultrafast wireless performance. It runs Apple’s latest iOS 6 and the last-generation A5 CPU. The iPad mini features the same number of pixels as the original iPad and iPad 2, so all the apps designed for iPad will run here as well. iPad mini is just 7.2 mm thin and weighs only 0.68 pounds. Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, claimed that the screen, which is .9-inch larger than the Nexus 7, gives the iPad mini 35 percent more display area than Google and Asus. It is said to provide 10 hours of battery life.
iPad mini features a front-facing FaceTime HD camera and a 5 megapixel iSight camera on the back with advanced optics for taking sharp still pictures and recording full 1080p HD video. The iSight camera includes video image stabilization and both cameras feature backside illumination to let users capture great pictures in low light. iPad mini features dual-band 802.11n Wi-Fi support for speeds up to 150 Mbps, which is twice the Wi-Fi performance compared to previous iPad models. iPad mini is also available in Wi-Fi + Cellular models, including LTE and DC-HSDPA. The Personal Hotspot feature allows you to share data connection via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or USB with up to five other devices such as MacBook Pro, iPod touch or another iPad. iPad mini will support the Lightning connector and its accessories are available to support cameras, SD cards and VGA or HDMI digital video. It also comes with new polyurethane Smart Covers which are available in pink, green, blue, light gray, dark gray and (PRODUCT) RED for $39. iPad mini with Wi-Fi models will be available in black & slate or white & silver on Friday, November 2, for a suggested retail price of $329 (US) for the 16GB model, $429 (US) for the 32GB model and $529 (US) for the 64GB model. iPad mini with Wi-Fi + Cellular will be offered for a suggested retail price of $459 (US) for the 16GB model, $559 (US) for the 32GB model and $659 (US) for the 64GB model. Pre-ordering of all models of iPad mini will start October 26

iPad Mini Not Gobbling Up Full Size iPad Sales Survey Shows
A survey of 1,000 U.S. consumers shows that Apple’s cheaper, smaller iPad mini may not be cannibalizing sales of larger iPad models as much as some had initially thought. The survey found that 47 percent of iPad mini purchasers are new to Apple. According to analyst Katy Huberty, concerns about iPad cannibalization — that is, users buying an iPad mini instead of a full-size iPad — are “overblown,” and that iPad market shares are “surprisingly resilient.” The tablet is making up 34 percent of total iPad purchases.
Apple introduced the 7.9-inch iPad mini October 23, and it went on sale to the public November 2. The pint-size tablet is Apple’s answer to 7-inch Android offerings like the Nexus 7 and Nook Color. It is lighter than its competitors, and the public seems to be warming up quite quickly to the new tablet.
“The iPad mini will add to Apple’s overall sales, but also cut into some of the big iPad sales, and that’s a risk they’re willing to take,” Forrester analyst Sarah Rotman Epps told Wired when the iPad mini went on sale November 2. “They’d rather lose have a lower average selling price, but keep market share.”
And keep market share they have. Although Samsung is more than creeping on Apple’s turf in the smartphone space, Apple is still holding its own in the tablet world. The iPad still makes up about 50 percent of the tablet market, according to Morgan Stanley’s stats, and that doesn’t look to be changing any time soon.
